Development of liver inflammatory injury in biliary atresia: from basic to clinical research

This review examines the mechanisms driving rapid liver fibrosis progression in biliary atresia beyond simple bile duct obstruction. It explores the three-stage fibrogenic cascade—inflammatory injury, myofibroblast activation, and scar formation—with emphasis on immune-mediated inflammatory processes that persist even after surgical bile flow restoration.
