Impact of individual components of emergency department pediatric readiness on pediatric mortality in US trauma centers

This cohort study of 555 US trauma centers found that specific ED pediatric readiness components—including validated triage tools, comprehensive quality improvement processes, and dedicated pediatric emergency care coordinators—were associated with better-than-expected survival in injured children. The findings provide evidence-based guidance for trauma centers to prioritize resource allocation when improving pediatric readiness capabilities.
