Patient-reported outcomes in pain management after ambulatory pediatric general and urologic surgery

This retrospective study of 3,173 pediatric ambulatory surgery patients demonstrates that opioid stewardship interventions reducing narcotic prescriptions by 6.5-fold did not compromise pain control. Only 10.4% of patients on non-opioid regimens reported moderate/severe pain versus 14.1% on opioids, suggesting non-opioid protocols are effective for postoperative pain management in pediatric general and urologic procedures.
