Treatment of bilateral Wilms’ tumor in children: how to improve the application of nephron-sparing surgery

This retrospective study of 70 children with bilateral Wilms tumors demonstrates that preoperative chemotherapy significantly increases the feasibility of bilateral nephron-sparing surgery (68.6% achieved bilateral preservation). With 4-year overall survival of 89.3%, the findings support routine preoperative chemotherapy to maximize renal preservation while maintaining oncologic outcomes.
