The outcome of esophageal perforation in neonates and its risk factors: a 10-year study
Topic overview
This 10-year retrospective study of nearly 10,000 neonates identified 15 cases (0.15%) of esophageal perforation, all successfully managed non-operatively. The findings emphasize early recognition of iatrogenic perforation risk factors in premature, low birth weight infants to enable conservative treatment and prevent mortality.
