Association between gastrointestinal perforation and patent ductus arteriosus in extremely-low-birth-weight infants: a retrospective study of our decade-long experience

This 10-year retrospective study of 535 extremely low-birth-weight infants examined the relationship between patent ductus arteriosus and gastrointestinal perforation. While PDA presence did not significantly affect mortality or perforation rates in NEC and FIP cases, clinicians should remain vigilant for GI complications from ductal steal-related hypoperfusion.
