Incidence and antiviral treatment of cytomegalovirus infection in infants with biliary atresia

This retrospective study found that 33% of biliary atresia patients undergoing Kasai portoenterostomy had active CMV infection. All infected patients received antiviral treatment with valganciclovir or ganciclovir, which effectively controlled viremia without major side effects, though larger studies are needed to determine impact on clinical outcomes.
