Laparoscopic versus open Kasai procedure for biliary atresia: long-term results of a randomized clinical trial

This 10-year randomized trial of 122 biliary atresia patients compared laparoscopic versus open Kasai procedures. While jaundice-free rates at 6 months were similar, laparoscopic approach showed a trend toward lower 10-year survival (44.3% vs 58.9%, p=0.09), suggesting open technique may remain preferable for this critical intervention.
