Gastroschisis in Mozambique: current status and priorities for improving care from Hospital Central de Maputo, the largest and referral hospital of the country

This retrospective study from Mozambique's largest referral hospital examined 62 gastroschisis cases over two years, finding a 95% mortality rate with only 24% receiving surgical intervention. The lack of prenatal diagnosis, high rates of prematurity and low birth weight, and limited neonatal care resources contributed to poor outcomes, though 20% of surgically treated patients survived with primary closure techniques.
