Incidence, severity and outcome of central line related complications in pediatric oncology patients; A single center study

Retrospective audit of 307 central venous catheters in 201 pediatric oncology patients found high complication rates (1.66 malfunctions and 1.51 CLABSIs per 1000 catheter-days), with 37% of devices removed due to complications. Hickman-Broviac catheters showed higher risk than totally implantable ports for infections and dislocations.
