Differences in the Outcome of Colonic Atresia with and without Abdominal Wall Defects

Retrospective analysis of 62 colonic atresia patients (2007-2016) comparing primary CA versus CA with abdominal wall defects found excellent short-term outcomes (1-year mortality 3-6.9%) with no significant difference between groups. Long-term morbidity and healthcare costs were primarily driven by short bowel syndrome and gastrostomy requirements rather than presence of abdominal wall defects or prematurity.
