Large-scale analysis of over 153,000 pediatric surgical patients reveals 0.20% VTE incidence, with highest rates in cardiothoracic surgery (0.72%). Most events occur within 9 days and before discharge, with VTE patients showing 6-fold higher mortality, emphasizing need for risk stratification and prophylaxis protocols.
