Protocolized management of pediatric complicated appendicitis leads to improved outcomes

Implementation of a standardized protocol for pediatric complicated appendicitis increased early appendectomy rates from 51% to 82%, resulting in reduced CT imaging, shorter hospital stays, and fewer complications. Patients with small or no abscess particularly benefited from early rather than interval appendectomy.
