Impact of native nephrectomy on hypertension outcomes in pediatric kidney transplant recipients: a 10-year institutional experience

Ten-year retrospective study of 135 pediatric kidney transplant recipients found that native nephrectomy performed for hypertension indications allowed high-risk patients to achieve similar blood pressure control as lower-risk patients who retained native kidneys. While nephrectomy increased bacterial infection readmissions, it did not improve overall hypertension medication requirements post-transplant.
