Risk factors associated with recent opioid-related hospitalizations in children: a nationwide analysis

Nationwide study of 51,349 pediatric opioid-related hospitalizations found that 17% had prior admissions within the same year, with most occurring at the same hospital. Drug abuse, chronic pulmonary disease, and depression were the most common comorbidities, while only 16% had recent surgery—highlighting non-surgical opioid exposure as a major risk factor in children.
