Effect of implementing an enhanced recovery protocol for pediatric colorectal surgery on complication rate, length of stay, and opioid use in children

This retrospective cohort study evaluated the implementation of an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol for pediatric colorectal procedures between 2014-2019. Post-implementation patients (n=284) demonstrated significantly reduced length of stay compared to pre-implementation controls (5.7 vs 8.3 days), suggesting ERAS pathways can improve efficiency in pediatric populations.
