Recurrence and Metachronous Disease in Children with Benign Ovarian Tumors: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Systematic review of 1,069 pediatric patients with benign ovarian tumors reveals 5.2% recurrence risk and 2.9% metachronous disease risk, with 75% of events occurring within 4 years post-resection. Findings challenge immediate discharge protocols and support minimum 4-year surveillance to preserve fertility in children at risk of contralateral ovary loss.
