Gastroschisis: Impact of Bedside Closure on Ventilator-Associated Outcomes

Retrospective study of 104 gastroschisis patients demonstrates that preformed silo with bedside closure enables 66% of simple gastroschisis neonates to avoid general anesthesia and intubation during the neonatal period, without increased complications. Findings support bedside closure as a safe alternative to operative management when appropriate nursing expertise is available.
