Intellectual development of patients with biliary atresia who underwent living donor liver transplantation in infancy

Study of 20 school-aged patients who underwent living donor liver transplantation for biliary atresia in infancy reveals mean IQ significantly lower than general population (91.8 vs 100), with 35% showing borderline intellectual functioning. Findings highlight need for long-term neurodevelopmental monitoring in this patient population.
