The Utility of Echocardiography and Pulmonary Function Testing in the Preoperative Evaluation of Pectus Excavatum

Retrospective study of 119 pectus excavatum patients found low rates of abnormal echocardiography (13%) and pulmonary function tests (17%) preoperatively. Patient symptoms did not predict abnormal results, but elevated Correction Index correlated with both abnormal ECHO and PFT, suggesting CT severity indices may guide selective testing rather than routine evaluation.
