Complications Associated with Totally Implantable Access Ports in Children Less Than 1 Year of Age

Retrospective two-institution study of 121 infants receiving totally implantable access ports found a 30% complication rate with median time to complication of 299.5 days. Cancer diagnosis was protective against early catheter malfunction, while larger caliber devices (>6.0Fr) and lower weight (<5kg) showed trends toward increased complications.
