Antibiotic Resistance is Common in the Cultures of Intraabdominal Abscess Drainage after Appendectomy

Retrospective study of 71 pediatric patients found that 50% of post-appendectomy intraabdominal abscesses showed antibiotic-resistant organisms, with standard ceftriaxone/metronidazole regimens failing to cover most Pseudomonas and Enterococcus infections. Results emphasize the need for culture-guided therapy and local antibiogram review in managing post-operative abscesses.
