Neurocognitive and Motor Functions in Biliary Atresia Patients: A Cross-sectional, Prospective National Cohort Study

Finnish national cohort study of 39 biliary atresia patients aged 1-20 years found moderately reduced IQ (mean 91) and markedly impaired motor function (43% at risk), with earlier jaundice clearance post-Kasai associated with better cognitive outcomes. No significant differences were observed between native liver and transplanted patients, highlighting the need for standardized developmental screening in all BA patients before school age.
