When to take it out? Optimal timing of interval appendectomy in 500 consecutive children

Retrospective study of 500 pediatric interval appendectomies found that operations performed before 12 weeks post-perforation had twice the odds of acute inflammation and longer operative times (101 vs 84 min). Findings suggest delaying interval appendectomy beyond 12 weeks may reduce surgical complexity.
