Implementation of the I-PASS standardized handoff protocol on a pediatric surgery service improved written documentation accuracy and hand-off effectiveness compared to pre-implementation practices. This quality improvement study demonstrates that structured communication tools validated in pediatric medicine can successfully transfer to surgical settings, potentially reducing medical errors during care transitions.
