Long-term vascular access for infants with moderate to severe osteogenesis imperfecta

Retrospective study of 17 pediatric OI patients demonstrates that port-a-cath placement is safe and effective for long-term bisphosphonate delivery, with devices remaining in place for median 53.5 months and low complication rates. Findings support early port placement to prevent iatrogenic fractures from repeated IV access attempts in fragile infants.
