The importance of dedicated colorectal team participation in the management of spina bifida and spinal cord injury patients

Retrospective study of 189 pediatric patients with spina bifida and spinal cord injury demonstrates the value of dedicated colorectal team integration into multidisciplinary clinics. Despite non-dilated colons on imaging, 65% of patients required enema-based bowel management for fecal incontinence, highlighting the hypomotility characteristic of neurogenic bowel dysfunction in this population.
