Novel Tool (BIS) Heralds the Need for Blood Transfusion and/or Failure of Non-operative Management in Pediatric Blunt Liver and Spleen Injuries

This retrospective study introduces the BIS score (combining base deficit, INR, and shock index pediatric age-adjusted) as a highly sensitive predictor for identifying children with blunt liver and spleen injuries who will require blood transfusion or fail non-operative management. A BIS score ≥1 demonstrated 96-97% sensitivity in predicting these outcomes in 477 pediatric trauma patients.
