How Safe is Adolescent Bariatric Surgery? An Analysis of Short-Term Outcomes

Retrospective analysis of 4,051 adolescent bariatric surgery patients (2015-2018) demonstrates low complication rates (1.2%) and minimal mortality, with sleeve gastrectomy increasingly preferred over gastric bypass. Higher BMI and younger age did not predict worse outcomes, supporting early surgical intervention for severe adolescent obesity.
