Pain resolution and glucose control in pediatric patients with chronic pancreatitis after total pancreatectomy with islet auto-transplantation

Published: Reading: 1 min

Topic overview

Retrospective study of 12 pediatric patients with chronic/recurrent pancreatitis who underwent total pancreatectomy with islet auto-transplantation (TPIAT) demonstrates 100% pain resolution and 66% insulin-independence at 1 year. Earlier intervention with higher islet mass transplanted and lower pre-operative BMI correlates with better glucose control outcomes.
