Routine chest X-rays after pigtail chest tube removal rarely change management in children

Retrospective study of 123 pigtail chest tube removals in children found that routine post-removal chest X-rays rarely changed management, with only 1.6% requiring reinsertion. Selective imaging based on symptoms and diagnosis may be more appropriate than universal screening.
