Clinical regression of inguinal hernias in premature infants without surgical repair

Study of 68 premature infants with inguinal hernias whose families delayed repair until 55 weeks corrected gestational age found that one-third experienced safe spontaneous regression, particularly in females. Findings challenge the standard practice of early repair and suggest watchful waiting may be appropriate for select premature patients.
