Treatment of jejunoileal atresia by primary anastomosis or enterostomy: Double the operations, double the risk of complications

This retrospective study of 80 neonates demonstrates that primary anastomosis for jejunoileal atresia results in significantly fewer severe complications compared to temporary enterostomy, which requires two operations and doubles the risk of both short-term and long-term complications including surgical site infections and short bowel syndrome.
