Treatment of Unstable Pediatric Tibia Shaft Fractures in Finland

Nationwide Finnish study of 226 pediatric tibia shaft fractures shows 63% were treated surgically, with higher rates in older children and those with concomitant fibula fractures. While serious complications were rare, 6% required reoperation for unsatisfactory outcomes, suggesting potential benefit from treatment centralization and need for RCTs comparing operative versus non-operative management.
