Impact of overweight/obesity on clinical outcomes after reduction for intussusception in children
Topic overview
Retrospective study of 564 children found that overweight/obese patients undergoing pneumatic reduction for intussusception had significantly higher rates of surgical intervention (10.2% vs 0.9%) and recurrence (47.2% vs 10.2%) compared to normal-weight peers. Elevated BMI and high white blood cell count were identified as independent risk factors for both treatment failure and recurrence.
