Fish Oil Emulsion Reduces Liver Injury and Liver Transplantation in Children with Intestinal Failure-Associated Liver Disease: A Multicenter Integrated Study

This multicenter study of 262 children demonstrates that fish oil lipid emulsion (FOLE) significantly outperforms soybean oil emulsion in treating intestinal failure-associated liver disease, achieving 65% cholestasis resolution vs 16% and reducing liver transplantation rates from 12% to 4%. FOLE should be considered the preferred parenteral lipid when direct bilirubin reaches 2 mg/dL.
