Implementation of an evidence-based accelerated pathway: can hospital length of stay for children with blunt solid organ injury be safely decreased?

Retrospective study of 103 pediatric patients with blunt liver and splenic injuries at a dual level 1 trauma center demonstrates that an accelerated management pathway safely reduced hospital length of stay from 4 to 2 days and decreased hospitalization costs by 31% without increasing morbidity or mortality.
