Laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal ligation for pediatric inguinal hernia: a novel surgical treatment

Large retrospective study (n=4,448) comparing laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (LPEC) to open herniorrhaphy for pediatric inguinal hernia found LPEC significantly reduced metachronous contralateral hernias and testicular complications but had higher recurrence rates and longer anesthesia times, particularly for unilateral repairs.
