Outcomes of Bariatric Surgery in Older Versus Younger Adolescents

Five-year prospective study of 242 adolescents undergoing bariatric surgery found comparable weight loss, comorbidity resolution, and quality of life between younger (13-15 years) and older (16-19 years) patients. Results support considering bariatric surgery for younger adolescents with severe obesity when clinically indicated, as age alone should not be a barrier to treatment.
