Modified percutaneous internal ring suturing with peritoneal injury in children: matched comparison to open hernia repair

Propensity-matched comparison of 90 patients demonstrates that modified PIRS with thermal peritoneal injury achieves comparable recurrence rates (3.3% vs 1.1%), complication rates, and operative times to traditional open inguinal hernia repair in children, with the added benefit of detecting and repairing contralateral PPV in 25.6% of cases.
