Retrospective study of 39 pediatric chronic pancreatitis patients demonstrates that total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation significantly reduces healthcare resource utilization, with median annual hospitalizations decreasing from 5 to 2 and costs dropping by 31% post-operatively. Findings support early referral to specialized pancreas centers for cost-effective management of debilitating pediatric chronic pancreatitis.
