Asymptomatic Non-occult Pneumothorax in Pediatric Blunt Chest Trauma: Chest Tube versus Observation

Retrospective study of 77 pediatric patients with asymptomatic non-occult pneumothorax from blunt chest trauma demonstrates that observation alone is safe and cost-effective compared to chest tube placement. All observed patients achieved complete resolution without intervention, with significantly shorter hospital stays (2 vs 7 days) and lower costs than those receiving chest tubes.
