Common Carotid Artery Imaging After Vessel Sparing Decannulation from Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Support

Retrospective study of 21 pediatric patients who underwent vessel-sparing decannulation from VA ECMO at Children's National Hospital (2008-2019). Post-decannulation imaging showed normal right common carotid artery in 48% of cases, with stenosis or occlusion in others; repeat cannulation was successful in 6/7 patients requiring additional ECMO support.
