Isolated low-grade solid organ injuries in children following blunt abdominal trauma: Is it time to consider discharge from the emergency department?

Published: Reading: 1 min

Topic overview

Multicenter study of 517 children with low-grade solid organ injuries shows that patients with grade I-II injuries and no other major injuries required zero interventions, while only 3% of grade III cases needed transfusion or angiography. Findings suggest hemodynamically stable children with isolated low-grade injuries could be safely discharged from the ED rather than routinely admitted.
