Implications of Tumor Characteristics and Treatment Modality on Local Recurrence and Functional Outcomes in Children with Chest Wall Sarcoma: A Pediatric Surgical Oncology Research Collaborative Study

Multi-institutional study of 175 children with chest wall sarcoma found that positive surgical margins doubled local recurrence risk (23% overall), while posterior rib resection and number of ribs removed predicted scoliosis development (13% incidence). Despite these complications, patient-reported quality of life remained excellent at 5-year follow-up.
