Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy in Children: A Randomised Controlled Trial

Randomized controlled trial demonstrates that single-dose co-amoxiclav prophylaxis before PEG placement in children significantly reduces overall infection rates (13.6% vs 40%) and shortens hospital stays. While individual wound and systemic infection rates showed trends favoring prophylaxis, the combined benefit supports routine antibiotic use for pediatric PEG procedures.
