Visualization of the fetal anus by prenatal ultrasound for the diagnosis of anorectal malformations: is it feasible?

Prospective study demonstrates that visualization of the fetal anal dimple on routine prenatal ultrasound is feasible in 58.6% of cases, with optimal detection at 28-33 weeks gestation. This technique may improve prenatal detection of less severe anorectal malformations, enabling earlier counseling and surgical planning.
