Does Use of a Feeding Protocol Change Outcomes in Gastroschisis? A Report from the Midwest Pediatric Surgery Consortium

Multi-institutional retrospective study of 315 neonates with uncomplicated gastroschisis found that protocol-based feeding reduced surgical site infections compared to non-protocol feeding (7% vs 16%), though other outcomes including TPN duration and length of stay were similar. The benefit was most pronounced in patients undergoing sutured closure.
