Complications and Failure to Rescue After Inpatient Pediatric Surgery

This cohort study of 200,554 pediatric surgical patients demonstrates a dose-response relationship between the number of postoperative complications and failure to rescue (death after complication). FTR rates increased stepwise with each additional complication in both low-risk and high-risk procedures, suggesting FTR may serve as a valuable quality measure for pediatric surgical care.
