THE EFFECT OF AZYGOS VEIN PRESERVATION ON POSTOPERTATIVE COMPLICATIONS AFTER ESOPHAGEAL ATRESIA REPAIR: RESULTS FROM THE TURKISH ESOPHAGEAL ATRESIA REGISTRY

Turkish registry study of 315 EA patients found azygos vein preservation during repair significantly reduced respiratory complications requiring treatment, though other postoperative complications (leaks, strictures, fistula recanalization) were similar between preserved and divided groups. Authors recommend preserving azygos vein when feasible to maintain normal mediastinal anatomy.
